Find duplicate files

Recover disk space by detecting files with identical content using size and hash comparison.

Find duplicates in a folder

1. Open the folder you want to check.
2. Click Find duplicates in the toolbar (it’s grouped with the file-management tools).
3. Files Manager scans the folder as a duplicate finder utility. It shows only files that have identical binary content — the same file present in two or more locations.
Tip: Duplicates are detected by matching size and hash / checksum, so even files with different names are caught.

Understand the results

  • The list displays size and hash / checksum value only for duplicate files.
  • Files Manager reports the number of non-unique files it identified.
  • You can review each group before deciding what to remove.

View hashes for any files

You can also show hash / checksum values for all or selected files without looking for duplicates:

1. Open the Properties dialog for a file (Alt+Enter).
2. Switch to the Hashes tab.
3. Choose a checksum algorithm (such as MD5 or SHA) to compute the file’s hash.
Tip: Hashes are great for verifying a download wasn’t corrupted or tampered with.
